EBFRIP statement: EU Parliament votes in favour of new RoHS directive coherent with science-based principles

EU PARLIAMENT VOTES IN FAVOUR OF NEW ROHS DIRECTIVE COHERENT WITH SCIENCE-BASED PRINCIPLES

By adopting a new EU RoHS Directive, an overwhelming majority of Members of the European Parliament have today supported a science-based approach to EU legislation. This means that substances used today in electrical and electronic equipment, such as brominated flame retardants, can continue to be used as part of a portfolio of safe, effective and efficient materials available to the electronics sector. EBFRIP welcomes the outcome of the European Parliament’s Plenary vote and believes the text of the agreement is an improvement to the current RoHS Directive, providing more clarity and predictability for industry.
